What can I expect in my first session?
Your first session is a clinical intake session. During this time, your therapist will ask more direct questions regarding your family, childhood, work, lifestyle, relationship, medical history, mental health history, and any other relevant information. It’s possible that we won’t get to everything in this first session, but we will at least get a solid foundation to inform future sessions. If you are feeling nervous, don’t worry, that’s common but your therapist is there to help you feel safe and calm.

What are the benefits of therapy?
There are many but most commonly clients find that it is supportive of their mental health to have someone to listen and sort through all the things going on in their heads. Therapists provide a safe space to air it all out and try to make sense of it, while helping draw connections and highlight areas of growth. Many of us have experiened a version of betrayal trauma, and being able to develop a trusting relationship with their therapist is a fundamental aspect of healing.

What is the process to book an assessment?
Every assessment involves a complimentary consult first to discuss your needs, see if we are a fit and to determine the proper assessment and course of action. Following the consultation, the clinical interview is booked, which varies in time based on the assessments issued. Once the interview is complete, the report takes 3-4 weeks to complete, at which time you will receive a copy and a debrief of the findings.
-
Does an assessment guarantee a diagnosis?
No, when booking and paying for an assessment, you are not guaranteed a diagnosis. These are in depth interviews and questionnaires that are intended to explore a possible diagnosis where the symptoms align with the DSM-5-TR criteria. Where symptoms do not align, a diagnosis is not given.
-
I am feeling really nervous about my assessment, is this normal?
Absolutely. Therapy sessions and assessments both can instill feelings of nervousness. It is understandable that learning more about yourself can be scary. In booking an assessment we review the pros and cons and determine if it is really what you need. Additionally, the interviews are designed to be supportive and sensitive to the nature of the assessment, and our reports are written in a way that acknowledge the humanness behind the report, in hopes of making the experience less intimidating.
